Interview w/ Kevin Poff from Mercer By: Jun Loayza

Under: Careers, Life Coaching, Undergraduate, Workplace

We sat down with Kevin Poff from Mercer Human Capital Consulting to talk about Mercer and why they are an ideal firm to work at.  Kevin did an amazing job explaining and articulating all of Mercer’s benefits; equally important, Kevin explains what type of person would not enjoy working in a consulting environment.

To be honest, I was very impressed with Kevin.  He knew absolutely everything there is to know about Mercer.  I know… that doesn’t sound that impressive when you read it, but when you listen to the podcast, you’ll understand what I mean.  He not only knows everything about Mercer Human Capital, but he knows about Oliver Wyman, and all of the other branches of Mercer.  This shows that Mercer not only does an excellent job training its employees, but that Mercer makes every employee feel that they have ownership of the company.  They take pride in knowing their company inside and out.

I was also impressed by the type of work that Mercer does.  It’s not a job for the faint of heart and will require you to put in more than an average 9-5pm.  Actually, don’t even apply to Mercer if you want a static job where you can just do your 8 hours a day.  Mercer’s people are extremely hard-working, adaptable, and are quick learners because the learning curve is very steep.  That’s one thing that Kevin stressed through the podcast, “You are always learning at Mercer.”

To end my recap, Mercer’s company culture is very fun, tight-knit, and a great group of people overall.  Kevin explains that the number 1 reason he joined Mercer was because of the people.  That’s exactly why you should choose a company too.  If you feel comfortable with the people at the company and feel that you can contribute to their culture, then you will definitely have a great time working there.

Thanks for the great interview Kevin!
